The question really is - why should it be illegal? Most of the negative aspects one typically associates with prostitution, like trafficking, violence against women, and organized crime, are unfortunate side-effects of prostitution, but not part of prostitution proper. Take this as an comparison: each year thousands of people are killed in alcohol related traffic accidents. If we banned alcohol we could save all those lives every year. So, are you for that? I thought not. And why? Because we recognize that all freedoms carry a price. This may sound somewhat cruel, but it’s reality. There are already laws against human trafficking, violence, etc., that people mix in with prostitution. The answer is to curb and control the undesirable aspects of prostitution, and keep what consenting adults do behind closed doors out of the realm of laws and the government. Be nice to them, and they will usually be nice back to you. Just like any human interaction.
